Former Albany mayor dies at home

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Former Albany Mayor Larry Bays has died.

He was rushed from his home by ambulance after he was found unresponsive in his home Monday morning.

Bays was elected mayor of Albany, and served from 1986-1990, after serving as an Albany City Commissioner.

The Certified Public Accountant was a 1967 graduate of Albany High School. He was born June 15, 1949.

He bought Thrush Aircraft, formerly Ayres, in 2003. Thrush builds Crop-duster airplanes, and sells them internationally.

An ambulance was called at 11:27 am., and he was pronounced dead at Phoebe Putney.
