ARLINGTON,  GA (WALB) –  Several south Georgia towns that did business with Southeastern U-S Insurance company were shocked to hear about the company's wrong-doings.

The city of Arlington was one of the dozens of south georgia local governments that got their worker's compensation insurance through Southeastern U.S. They were able to get a new policy before their coverage lapsed and they didn't have any ongoing claims.

The city clerk says the company's downfall is proof it's hard to know who to trust when it comes to money.

"When we started with them two years ago we liked the company, the agents. We thought we had a good company, but we found out we didn't," said Mary King, Arlington City Clerk.

Insurance commissioner John Oxendine says the company's CEO Clark Fain III illegally took out a $10-million loan from his company to invest in hunting land in Seminole county.

The company's assets were sold at a huge auction in Donalsonville yesterday. The state took over the company in October and many cities and school boards throughout the state were out thousands of dollars and without workman's comp insurance because of it.
