ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Up and coming leaders in Albany are doing their part to help kids learn to read.
Leadership Albany recently received a $5,000 grant to provide impoverished preschool children in Dougherty County with a new age appropriate book each month. That grant is in addition to a $7500 grant from the Equity Group and donations from teachers.
Just $36 provides for 12 books a year. Mary Ligon said, "If we can get books, reading material in the hands of young children, preschoolers, and have their parents or caregivers reading to them at home, it will help them develop their literacy skills and have them better prepared for school and then when they are better prepared for school they'll be more successful in school and further in life."
The program is through the Ferst Foundation and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. If you want to donate to help Leadership Albany buy more books for kids, click here.
