ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The Small and Disadvantaged business consortium in Albany disbanded months ago, but the county still hasn't come up with a new policy of its own.

The city, county and school board funded that office that helped minority-owned business get local government contracts. Now, They're all trying to come up with individual policies for dealing with small businesses, based on size, not race or gender.

County Commissioner Gloria Gaines says it's important that any new agencies have similar goals.  She said, "I'm just happy to see that there is some effort on the part of the two governments and perhaps three governments to work together to create that uniformity to make it a little easier to do business with the county under a new program."

Gaines is worried that the new organization may not benefit African American business owners, and they may end up worse than they are now.
