ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Before a vote has even been taken on consolidating Albany and Dougherty County, commissioners are already fighting over the assets of Water, Gas and Light. The new details today, County commissioners voted 4 to 3 to let the city keep city assets, including money from Water, Gas and Light If the governments consolidate.
Commissioner Jack Stone voted against that plan because he says it does nothing to consolidate the two governments. He said, "They're trying to combine the city and county, but when you do this, it's pulling the city and county away again."
The city and county are trying to resolve differences before they vote on a consolidated charter that will be passed along to the General Assembly in January.
