ALBANY, GA (WALB) – More H1-N1 vaccine is making its way into southwest Georgia just in time to make sure many children get their second dose.
An additional 1,700 of the H1-N1 nasal spray have been distributed to the 14 health departments in southwest Georgia. Health Officials urge parents to make sure their children are protected. Adults only need one dose of the vaccine, but children should get a second one about four weeks after their first dose.
"Their immune systems are not as well developed so it takes a little bit more to get them that full immunity so it's the same thing, no one has seen this vaccine before and just with the studies. The studies indicated that up to age 10 needs that booster," said Dr. Jacqueline Grant, Southwest Georgia Health Department Director.
Health officials encourage you to call your local health department before making the trip to make sure you fit the priority groups and to make sure there's vaccine available.
