ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The recession will not end for thousands of jobless Georgians until more employers can start hiring again.
Late last week the state announced unemployment rose to 10.2 percent in October.
This year many are depending on seasonal jobs in the retail industry. The hope is that those positions could turn into permanent positions for some.
But will retailers still need the extra help in the down economy?
At Marty's in Albany, they expect an increase in foot traffic and plan to hire up to five part time employees and fill two full time positions.
"Yes it's going to be about the same number despite the economy we have more hours to give our company has given us more hours so we're trying to do our part to help out and get some people in here to make it easier on us," said Willie Simmons, Marty's Asst. Manager.
The state's labor force has decreased by 140,000thousand people a 2.9 percent decrease from the more than 4.8 million working Georgians this time last year.
