ALBANY, GA (WALB) – After more than five years of waiting, Albany Technical College broke ground on an important new campus building Friday.
The Logistics Education Center will allow 175 employees to be trained in specialized welding to repair armored vehicles at the Marine Corps Logistics Base. The building is also expected to be an economic boost for the region.
"It is going to be an opportunity for us to provide distance education we're going to be able to produce learning object specific to the Marine Corps and Logistics and Maintenance functions the have but we'll be able to duplicate that with manufacturing, with health care, with hospitality," said Albany Technical College President Dr. Anthony Parker.
In addition to the logistics center the building will also house a new library and media center and the culinary arts program. Construction on the building is expected to begin soon and will be complete in January of 2011.
