THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) – If you enjoy wildlife, it's a good weekend. The 14th Annual Plantation Wildlife Arts Festival starts Saturday in Thomasville.
The two-day festival provides a big economic boost for the city. It attracts thousands of visitors and has something for the whole family.
There is so much you can do, buy, and see at the festival.
Artists from all over the world were there today setting up their paintings, sculptures, and jewelry displays.
But I had the most fun outside getting to know some very interesting animals.
Lions, Tigers, and monkeys. Wilson is one of the many animals spectators will have the pleasure of meeting this weekend at Thomasville's Plantation Wildlife Arts Festival.
He's smart and very friendly. He even gave me a few kisses! Once you've had enough monkey love, you can even go on a camel ride.
Of course there's loads of fun to be had outside, but the focal point of the festival is inside.
60 artists from all over the world put their best work up for sale.
"It's a luxury for sure." This is Watercolor artist Amy Poor's 10th year at the festival. It's always a big hit for her. She drove all the way from Oregon.
"The economy has made it hard on artists but I'm sticking with it and I think it's starting to approve," she said.
Good for the artists and a huge money maker for the city.
"Our artists stay in the hotels and visitors come flocking," said the Festival's Director Sharlene Cannon.
Around 6,000 visitors are expected to attend the family event. And whether you're ready to buy an exquisite piece of art.
Or want to play with the cool animals.
There's something here for everyone.
The Festival is held at the Thomasville Cultural Center and that's where all the money goes.
All non-profits like them are struggling right now so they can use the support.
The Festival, as you can imagine, is the center's biggest annual fundraiser.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for children, and kids 4 and under get in free.
