VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) –Georgia's Lieutenant Governor says state workers should expect more furloughs and even layoffs as the budget crisis continues.
Casey Cagle talked about the state budget with college Republicans at Valdosta State University on Thursday. He says weathering the economic storm will require tough choices.
"The essential government services that have to be provided certainly as it relates to education has to be a high priority as well as law enforcement in protecting our citizens so the many things that are non-essential we really are going to have to cut and do away with," said Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle.
A lot of the students expressed concern about health care. Cagle said he's worried changes at the federal level could end up costing the state big money at a time when Georgia can least afford it.
