ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A man who authorities say attempted to kidnap his ex-wife and escape from a patrol car is back under arrest Saturday- but not without a chase and search spanning two South Georgia counties.
After the victim's mom called police and car trouble stopped Mark Roland from getting too far in Seminole County, he fled to Miller County where officers caught him at his parents' house.
Cell phone video from earlier Saturday morning shows sheriff's deputies, GBI, and blood hounds searching for 49-year-old Mark Roland in Miller County. After officers took Roland into custody the first time, they say he was in the backseat of the patrol car when he kicked through the window and fled into the woods.
"Most of the cars in our area don't have them so they can get right to the window," said Seminole County Sheriff Heath Elliot.
Bloodhounds from the Apalachee Correctional Institute in Florida were called in to search for Roland.
After hours of searching, the bloodhounds found Mr. Roland hiding in a wooded area not too far down the dirt road from his parent's home off Hornsby road
"When he was taken into custody, he didn't have handcuffs on so somehow he managed to get out of them," Sheriff Elliott said.
WALB tried to speak to Roland's ex-wife at her home in Seminole County, but could only get a few nods from her daughter.
Sheriffs say the mom suffered minor injuries to her face, but they're just glad the search all morning ended with an arrest.
The sheriff's department says Roland had faced charges before. Some of them dealt with drugs. Sheriffs believe he was also released from a detention center not long ago.
Roland is charged with stalking, kidnapping, and aggravated assault. He's currently being held in the Seminole County Jail.
