LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) – Because of the potential for violent crime, more people are arming themselves for protection.

Some women are taking steps to make sure they're not only armed, but ready to shoot.

On Saturday the Lee County Sheriff's Office held the second part of their women and guns class.

The Lee County Sheriff's office is signing up new women gun owners for at least one more class before the end of the year.

20 women have now learned the rules on when and how to properly fire their weapons.

Attendees got instructions on the proper stance and grip, before firing 25 rounds each.

Allison Largeman has owned guns for more than two decades and says practice makes perfect.

"For anyone who keeps a weapon in their household like we do it's important like Major Owens said to keep up your skills and practice consistently, for me it's been 20 years, some of it came back." Allison Largeman, Gun Owner.

Those who completed the course Saturday morning received a certificate of completion.
