ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The need is up, and donations are down.

Many charities are struggling because people just don't have as much money to give these days.

In some places in the country, people aren't giving as much time either, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

Some non-profit leaders are thankful south Georgians are still volunteering.

"Last year we had over 500 individuals volunteer at the Food Bank we've seen a drastic increase I don't think it's so much the economy as the exposure the Food Bank is getting," said Brett Kirkland, Food Bank President.

"When I first came here we had 5000 volunteers and last year we had more than 76 thousand volunteers," said Judy Bowles, Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful.

Last year Keep-Albany Dougherty County beautiful presented a check to commissioners, showing that in the past 20 years volunteers have done more than $65.4 million worth of work in the city and county.

With the holidays almost here, many non-profits need extra help.
