ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  An east Albany restaurant at the center of an investigation into mis-spent Albany Dougherty Inner City Authority money, is now open for business.

LaJuana Woods' restaurant L'Jua's started doing business Thursday November fifth, but held their official grand opening Wednesday. The restaurant on Radium Springs Road next to Albany State University will be open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Woods was called into question after receiving a 50,000 facade grant from Downtown Manager Don Buie even though the restaurant didn't fall in the zone for the grant and despite the fact Woods was an ADICA board member. Wednesday, Woods said she's continuing to pay back the grant.

"I'm not sure to date of what the exact amount is, but again my focus is on just trying to do my opening, make a great place here for the neighborhood and just help everybody enjoy what's here in the neighborhood for them," said Woods.

When we checked with the ADICA acting Director James Taylor he said Woods has made two $2,500 payments and will continue to make payments over the next seven months when the payments will jump to $5,000. Woods Wednesday said the restaurant will employ 50 people.

It will be open Monday through Thursday from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, Friday and Saturday from 6:00 AM to 12:30 AM although dinner will stop at 10:00 PM and they'll do a Sunday brunch from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
