ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Employee theft is a huge problem in South Georgia.
Three employees at the East Albany Crate store are now charged with theft.
45 year old Alice Burgest, 34 year old Alicie Maddox, and
20 year old Quanedria Allen were caught on store surveillance video stealing clothes for themselves and giving some away to customers.
Crate owner Laurie Saunders says they arrest and prosecute employees they catch stealing, to send a message. Saunders said "It's something that we have to do. We work very hard to bring the best prices to make our company profitable. One day of employee theft can wipe that out."
Saunders said other South Georgia business owners agree that employee theft is a huge problem, that businesses during the recession can not afford. ©2009 WALB News. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed. Feedback
