ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Brooke and Gunnery Sergeant Anthony Kratz are celebrating the Marine Corps birthday. Not long ago, his wife celebrated his return from Iraq and now they're celebrating 20 years of marriage.

"When you're apart you remember how much you love eachother," Mrs. Kratz said. "It's not that you can't live without each other, you don't want to live without eachother "

Mr. and Mrs. Kratz joined more than a 1,000 other people for the Cake cutting ceremony, marine band, and sword detail.  Col. Terry Reid hosted the event inside the maintenance center.

"As part of that tradition we respect our oldest and youngest marines,"Col. Reid said.

LCpl. Michael Canter- the youngest marine on the base and Retired marine David Bailey - the oldest marine shared a piece of the cake together which is part of the 234 year tradition.

"Back in the day I kicked my heels up at a young kid but as I got older I had to give it to the Good Lord," Bailey.

"It was amazing to be with that retired master gunnery sergeant up here," LCpl. Michael Canter said.

Kratz who is also a gunnery sergeant says he enjoys being a mentor to the younger marines, but on his wedding anniversary,he says his focus is on his wife.
