CORDELE, GA (WALB) - Northbound traffic on Interstate 75 in Crisp County is still backed up for miles Thursday afternoon after a tractor trailer caught fire.
Just before 1:00 P.M., Georgia State Patrol was called to the interstate at mile marker 98. There, 51-year-old Thomas Whittaker of Villa Rica had run into the retaining wall.
After skidding for about three tenths of a mile, one of the saddle tanks of his truck was ripped off and the friction between the tank and the wall started a fire where the diesel fuel had leaked.
Whittaker was not hurt, but was charged for failure to maintain his lane. Traffic was still being diverted off of the interstate onto Exit 99 at 6:30PM as the fuel spill was being cleaned up.
