MACON COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - An undercover sting operation and months of investigating have landed Macon County one of its biggest drug indictments in history.

District Attorney E. Paul Jones made the announcement Wednesday on the courthouse steps in Tuskegee along with several law enforcement agencies who participated.

The Macon County Grand Jury returned the 49 count indictment Tuesday on Terence Merchant, his wife, Kimberly, 40, Twana Barnhart Reynolds, 42, Slyvester Nettles, 34, Curtis Walton, 30, and Aaron Merchant.

Merchant and his wife were arrested at their, T & K Store on highway 199 and 14 in Notasulga.  "I am so glad to have Terence Merchant. He has been a target since I came into office six years ago. Other agencies have been after him as well for some time. Drugs are ruining our kid's lives and we've got to get a handle on the drugs," says Jones.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigations and the Tallapoosa and Tallassee Narcotics Task Forces worked hard, Jones said, to bring this case to this point.  The investigation is still ongoing.
