CUTHBERT,  GA (WALB) - Election results in Cuthbert were delayed. Workers counted the votes by hand Wednesday.

Cuthbert still uses paper ballots. Election officials say there were some problems with the results tallied by the Optic Scan machine. So they spent four hours counting each vote the old fashion way. After the problems, they say they're going electronic the next go-round.

"The mayor said that before we have the next election which will be in 2011 that we are certainly going to look for some way to either purchase or join in with the county to use the computers," said Diane Watley, Elections Supervisor.

In state elections every precinct must use the same electronic voting machines. County governments must buy those touch-screen systems but some small cities don't have them and still use paper ballots.

All the incumbents in Cuthbert won. Mayor Steve Whatley and city councilmen Vincent Gadson, Jimmy Rise, and Jack Torbet will keep their positions.
