HURTSBORO, AL (WXTX) - Early Sunday morning, Russell County investigators were called to a secluded Hurtsboro home on Cobb Street.
There, they found the body of 28-year-old Alford Brown.
He had been shot several times in the stomach, head and face with what appears to have been a large weapon, according to Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry.
Officials say Brown was getting out of the car to visit friends when he was killed.
"We do have some suspects that we're in the process of trying to track down and interview and talk with but at this point, there are no warrants signed for anyone and no arrests have been made," said Lieutenant Heath Taylor, Chief Investigator for the Russell County Sheriff's Department.
Witnesses tell authorities they didn't see anything in the dark.
As investigators continue working every aspect of the case, more information is starting to emerge about the victim.
The Bullock County Sheriff tells Fox 54 Brown was the key witness in their latest murder investigation. The Sheriff says Brown was at a club off Highway 51 three weeks ago and saw a 25-year-old man get shot.
It's not clear at this point if the two crimes are related but officials don't think Brown's death was the result of a random shooting.
"I do feel like it was intended for specific target. I think Mr. Brown, the deceased in our case, was the target of the homicide," Lieutenant Taylor said.
Russell County investigators tell WXTX they will be in Hurtsboro over the next several days as they work to pinpoint a suspect or suspects in the case.
