Albany watching ward three commission race

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - It's almost Election Day, Tuesday November 3rd.

South Georgians will be headed to the polls to exercise their right to vote and decide several races in our area.

In Albany many are watching the race for the ward three commission seat.

"We're just working and pounding the pavement you always need to act like you're in last place," said Christopher Pike, Albany Commission Candidate.

Christopher Pike is challenging Arthur Williams in this race.

Williams served on the Albany City Commission from 1982 through 2004.

He says his experience makes him the best candidate in the Ward 3 race, Pike disagrees.

"My thing is experience without vision doesn't do you any good because you need to have someone with an ideal future where will we be 10 years from now," said Pike.

We called Arthur Williams but did not get a response.

Williams has been under fire for back taxes to the state and the Internal Revenue Service and dozens of liens against him date back more than a decade.

This is what he told us on October 21st.

"If you will stop looking at the prescribed negatives and look at the positives. I have not absconded with any money. I don't have a fraud case on me. And I've been tried and tested through the best in the city," said Arthur Williams, Albany Commission Candidate.

His opponent says he won't make an issue out of it, and only wants to work to make ward three better.

"When we go door to door talking to folks and especially our senior citizens they're very concerned about being robbed, beaten and having their house broken into," said Pike.

Early voting ended October 30th the turn out has not been good, Pike says he's working to motivate residents to exercise their rights.

"Reminding them and motivating them to actually go to the poles on Tuesday, as you know we've only had 47 to vote in three weeks," said Pike.

A little more than 5,000 people are registered to vote in ward three; both pike and Williams are vying for the chance to serve them.

"I'm running for city commission because it's about me being a servant to the community," said Pike.

Ward two and ward five commissioners Dorothy Hubbard and Bob Langstaff are running unopposed.
