ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A recent sex offender scare in Albany has kids, their parents and law enforcement officers on alert tonight.
Sheriff's deputies and police officers were out in full force patrolling neighborhoods to keep children safe this Halloween.
Most kids that WALB spoke to tonight have one thought in common this Halloween and that's to stay away from strangers.
"We're checking the neighborhood trying to keep kids safe," Said Sgt.Eddie Jackson with the Dougherty County Sheriff's Department.
Ch'asia Bush and her family and friends were trick-or-treating near downtown Albany. She had an adult with her the whole time to keep her from getting kidnapped.
"If you're not with your mom you might get taken by a stranger,"Bush said.
Sgt. Jackson drove over to another neighborhood near downtown Albany where Raquez Timley lives. He says he learned from his cousins who were victims of a sex offender not to speak to strangers.
"I don't say anything to them and turn around," Timley said.
Timley and his friends walked up and down the street waiting for the Boys and Girls Club to open its haunted house. This whole time no adult supervision was visable.
"The parents or big brother or sister need to be with them," Sgt. Jackson said.
Jackson says, more parent supervision will create safer neighborhoods so that kids can enjoy themselves for more Halloweens to come.
Sheriff's also say all registered sex offenders had a 7 p.m. curfew for Halloween. They're also required to keep their front porch light off and not give out candy.
