Body found in Coffee County cotton field

News release from the GBI

Broxton- On Thursday, October 29, 2009, the Coffee County Sheriff's Office was contacted at approximately 10:11 a.m.  in reference to a farmer finding a body in his cotton field located off a dirt road on 441 north of Broxton.

The Coffee County S.O. requested assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Douglas Office.

The farmer was working in his cotton field when he came across the body. The body appears to be a female but due to the condition of the body the race is not known at this time.

The body appeared to have been in the field for an extended period of time.

The identity of the victim and cause of death is unknown and the body will be sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.

The investigation is still on-going; therefore no other details will be released at this time. If anyone has information pertaining to the investigation, please contact the Coffee County Sheriff's Office at 912-384-4227 or the GBI Douglas Office at 912-389-4103.
