VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - You can get involved in local government and help your community by serving on a board or authority.

Valdosta is looking to fill several vacancies.

The city council will appoint new members to several boards November 5th. The Housing Authority Director says serving on a committee is a good way to get involved in politics.

"Serving on a board is a great opportunity to get involved in local government maybe on a smaller scale than running for public office," said Mark Stalvey, Valdosta Housing Authority Executive Director. "They can begin to learn the process of government and the process of serving citizens."

One vacancy is available on the Housing Authority. The deadline to apply is Wednesday. To find out more, click here.
