MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) - One man is dead and another in jail after a weekend shooting in Colquitt County. 29-year-old Curtis Lee Coasey Jr. was shot twice following a fight in Moultrie.
Tiffany Mcbride says she's taking it day by day after police say Andre Richardson shot her first cousin Curtis Lee Coasey Jr. to death.
"It seems like every time I come to this house I look up there and it's just so hard," Mcbride said as she held back tears.
"He was a friend and a gentle person you know but he just got caught up in a bad situation," said Cousey's neighbor Johnny Moore.
Neighbors say they heard a lot of commotion around 3:00 Saturday morning when they came outside to see Coasey laying in the front yard of his home.
He was taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center where he passed away.
"He was the goofy type of person who made everyone laugh. When you think of him, you think of "Big Poke," Mcbride said. "That's the way we'll remember him is by his name."
Mcbride and her family can't help but remember "Big Poke" every time they gather together on the front porch on Third Avenue Northwest which is just down the road from Coasey's home.
Moultrie Police arrested Andre Richardson about eight hours after they say he shot 29-year-old Coasey twice.
" GBI working with us - we work together great," said Cpl. Dave Underwood with the Moultrie Police Department. "I believe it's because of that teamwork that we were able to make an arrest so soon."
Neighbors say there may have been a fight prior to the shooting, but police are still putting the pieces together in the investigation.
"He'll be missed and we love him. That's it," as Mcbride teared up.
For now, Coasey's family will continue to remember him as a friend who would do anything for the people he loved.
This is the first murder in the city of Moultrie this year. Police say right now they're implementing new ways to keep neighborhoods safe from crime.
