COOK COUNTY, GA (WALB) - Cook County Middle School is working to bring holiday cheer to troops overseas. Students, faculty, and staff are collecting donations through the middle of November.
They'll work with Moody Air Force Base to ship the items to Iraq and Afghanistan.
The drive started as a Future Farmers of America service project.
As teachers and other students got interested, it became schoolwide. The goal is to fill 800 shoe boxes and ship them to troops.
"A lot of negative publicity, a lot of families now starting to hear negative stuff," said Jeff McClean, Cook Middle Agriculture Instructor. "We want to give them an opportunity to enjoy what they're doing. We're hear because they're there and we want to repay them for that."
If you would like to make a donation, contact CMS Art Teacher Gina Prinkey at (229) 549-5999.
Needed items include: baby wipes, toothbrushes, shaving gel, paper, colored pencils, nutrition bars, candy, toilet paper, tooth paste, socks, small crayons, christmas decorations, protein bars, powdered drink packets, fabric softener, razors, small pencils, coloring books, and jerky.
