Boozing bear prompts store evacuation

Posted: Updated:

(NBC) - A grocery store in Hayward, WI, is getting back to normal after being evacuated Friday when a 125 pound black bear decided to do a little shopping in the liquor department.

The bear walked through the front door of Marketplace Foods and headed straight for the beer cooler in rear of the liquor department.

The bear climbed up 12 feet onto a shelf inside the cooler where he decided to sit for about an hour. Customers were evacuated from the store as animal officials tranquilized the bear and took it out of the store.

The big bear was said to be very tame and content, and store officials say it didn't even help itself to any of the drinks during its stay.A grocery store in Hayward, WI, is getting back to normal after being evacuated Friday when a 125 pound black bear decided to do a little shopping in the liquor department.
