ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The fight against hunger continued Tuesday in Lee County.
The Food Bank of Southwest Georgia parked their Manna Food Distribution truck loaded with 360 boxes of food at Leesburg United Methodist Church. Volunteers handed out 200 of those boxes in the first two hours.
This was the second time the Food bank took their truck to Lee County. Volunteers say they were surprised by the number of new people who signed up for assistance.
"We try and go to each county two or three times a year if we possibly can we're trying to get our distribution up in these impoverished counties and so we try and go two or three times a year," said Mark Harness, Food Bank of Southwest Georgia Salvage & Volunteer Coordinator.
The Smithville Neighborhood Freedom Center brought a busload of six to today's food distribution. Volunteers say community partners willing to get people to the distribution sites make the manna program work.
