ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Mitchell EMC employees donated hundreds of dollars and several hundred pounds of food to the Southwest Georgia Food Bank Tuesday.
The money was donated during last week's Hands on Georgia campaign. Employees decided they wanted to help all the Food Banks in the areas they serve including Sylvester and Camilla.
"In light of the economy being so bad, we thought we'd focus on something that was vital and completely necessary and that was food, so we opted to go with a food drive," said Evera Moys, Mitchell EMC.
"Over the past year the need has drastically increased, some areas 30 percent and with the holiday season coming upon us our demand goes up anyway," said Brett Kirkland, Southwest Georgia Food Bank CEO.
Workers also gave a check for $310 to the Sylvester First Baptist Church Food Pantry and several hundred pounds of food went to the Pelham Food Bank.
