VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Teachers in Lowndes county are getting help with free school supplies for their classrooms.
Teacher's Harvest school supplies store at Second Harvest of South Georgia will soon be in business.
Congressman Jack kingston was on hand for the ribbon cutting since Second Harvest got a $250,000 federal grant to help teachers. Research shows teachers spend $430 of their own to purchase school supplies.
"Anytime we can go out and provide key resources in the classrooms to make sure our children get a good education," said Frank Richards, President of Second Harvest of South Georgia. "It's going to have huge overall effect on the poverty rate in south Georgia by making sure these kids are successful."
The school store officially opens November 7 for teachers to shop.
