Chase ends with crash and bloodshed

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - We're still gathering details about a shooting in east Albany Saturday afternoon.

A suspect in a Mitchell County theft investigation was shot trying to flee from a deputy.

A Mitchell County deputy tried to make contact with a man he tracked to an Albany scrap yard the suspect is accused of stealing metal authorities believe he was going to sell in Albany, shots were fired hitting the suspect.

He took off down East Oglethorpe and crashed into two vehicles at Loftus Drive.

"The deputy encountered a theft suspect at an east side recycling location there were shots fired and then a pursuit ensued after that we responded to assist in the chase which ended in a crash at this intersection," said Lt. Joe Moored, Albany Police Department.

The Mitchell county deputy involved in the shooting was not injured.

We don't know the victim's status nor his name, or the people in the two vehicles he crashed into.
