ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Frustrated cell phone customers in South Georgia couldn't dial out for hours today. People flooded the Verizon Wireless Parking lot in Albany Saturday trying to find answers.
A store manager said a signal with the tower went down at 9 a.m. Saturday. Customers were still able to text and e-mail on their phones, but some said it was still very frustrating not being able to dail out.
"It's pretty scary," said Amy Imes, who planned on using her cell phone to contact people during a sporting event. "My home phones are out as well so I have not had any service at all."
Dedra White of Cuthbert stopped by the Verizon Wireless store to see why her phone wasn't working.
"I feel like we're living in the stone ages. I rely so much on my phone," said White. "I'm still not happy about it because If you miss your payment they're going to cut you off. I feel like we are loyal customers. They should be at our beck and call."
A spokesperson with Verizon said cell phone service became available again around 5 p.m. Saturday. The network team is still investigating the exact cause.
