ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany Police are searching for an elderly woman driving a new Toyota, who reportedly shoplifted a purse from the Goodwill Store on North Slappey Thursday afternoon.

A cashier at the Goodwill Store says she saw, what she described as an elderly woman, pick up a Coach purse about 12:35 PM and leave without paying for it. When she called for a fellow employee to stop her, the shoplifter reportedly fled in a new blue Toyota Corolla. Goodwill officials say that purse was worth more than $200 retail, and they were selling it for $45.  Money despartely needed to help South Georgia's unemployed receive training and job placement.

Goodwill Store Manager Cecillia Rentz said "Goodwill is a non-profit organization, and the donations we receive from the community help fund out mission. And without those donations we can't do that."

Goodwill officials say they have not seen an increase in shoplifting in their stores during the tough economic times, but admit they are not immune to theft. Witnesses got a partial license plate number from the car, and Police are investigating.
