DAWSON, GA (WALB) -  It took five years, but the $2.1 million renovation on the Terrell County Courthouse is finally finished.

The clock is now chiming in downtown Dawson. It was restored and moved to a lower floor so tour groups and people on the street can see it. The clock was part of the original building built back in 1892.

Steve Highsmith, who helped organize the $85,000 effort to restore the clock, said it's a tribute to the community's forefathers.

"They obviously though it important at the time of construction 1892 to build a structure like this not only for their use, but for the use of those people to follow."

As part of the renovations, courtrooms inside the building were fitted with new air conditioning and heat systems and updated with monitors to show evidence to attorneys and jurors.
