VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - A section of a Valdosta historic house was moved to Echols County on Tuesday.
The other section of the old fraternity house will be moved in the next week. Echols County resident Conrad Rogers plans to rehab the home. It's been vacant for a couple years.
The Valdosta State University Foundation initially wanted to tear down the house.
"Minimum estimate to get the house back up to service was about $150,000 and the Valdosta State University Foundation is simply not in a position to spend that kind of money and not have some sort of useful purpose for the house," said John Crawford, Vice President for University Advancement and CEO of the VSU Foundation, Inc.
Once the lot is cleared, the Foundation plans to lay sod and use it as a park.
