ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A South Georgia legislator plans to run for Congress.
Representative Mike Keown of Thomas County has filed paperwork to challenge 2nd District Congressman Sanford Bishop next year.
Bishop is up for re-election to a ninth term in the U.S. House. Thursday Keown told us a lot of people have encouraged him to run.
"In my opinion I feel like we're headed in the wrong direction in a lot of ways and I feel like we needed someone to step up and get into this race and see if we can talk about some of the issues and I'm ready to do it," said Rep. Mike Keown.
Keown said now that the paperwork is filed he'll start the fundraising effort. He says it will take more than a million dollars to fund a campaign against Bishop.
