THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Thomasville city crews spent Friday cleaning up storm damage.
Trees and limbs littered many yards and roads believed to have been brought down by powerful straight line winds Thursday night.
And thousands were without electricity.
Sidney Battle picks up debris scattered across the backyard of his condo off Timber Ridge drive in Thomasville.
"Before I fell asleep I heard a thump on the roof and it shook the house a little bit," he said.
The thump was a tree falling on his home.
"It knocked our power box loose," he said.
Battle was one of 3,100 Thomasville residents without power through the night. The city was under a severe Thunderstorm warning until 6pm yesterday.
"We heard real loud rain and hail," said Battle.
The hail and heavy winds were enough to blow the roof right off Jackson's Body Shop and send it flying onto the bridge at Walcott and Madison.
The blocked bridge even caused a minor car accident.
Friday utility crews stayed busy, repairing power lines and restoring power to the thousands who lost it Thursday night.
"It didn't last that long probably about 30 minutes, but it did a lot of damage before it left," said Battle.
No one was hurt during the storm. By the end of the day Friday all power was restored to the city
A lot of debris from trees was scattered up and down Crawford Street today.
The storm also sent a large tree crashing to the ground last night at Remington and Crawford. It was removed this morning.
