MCLB-Albany, DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Marine Corps Band will be part of historic Independence Day celebrations in New York City.

The Band will play at the re-opening of the Statue of Liberty's crown this Saturday.

The crown has been closed to the public since the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001.

The band will also play during a naturalization ceremony for service members at the Statue of Liberty and at a New York Yankees game.

"We've been preparing for about a week and a half now, and yesterday was the first time they got all the details because it's not just the rededication we're performing for we're actually playing on Good Morning America," said CWO Christian Flores, MCLB Marine Band Officer.

The Albany band is one of 12 in the Marine Corps.

They serve as musical ambassadors and perform at military ceremonies community celebrations and official events.

They play for more than 250,000 people each year.
