ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The strangulation death of a two year old Florida girl by the family's pet python has veterinarians issuing a warning to people who keep exotic pets in their home.

Veterinarians say use simple common sense. Any exotic pet can be dangerous and shouldn't be kept in a home with small children. Veterinarians say children should always be supervised with any pet.

"No matter what species, how big, how small, there needs to be direct parental supervision with any pet the sweetest dog can turn into a deadly weapon if left alone with a child. Children seem to explore with their hands and a little child coming at an animal with hands first can intimidate an animal," said Dr. Ivy Chupp, Bush Animal Clinic.

You should also remember, even though a wild animal my be raised with human contact that animal's natural instincts are never lost.
