ALBANY, GA (WALB) - We now know that mysterious murder in East Albany early Tuesday was gang violence.
And apparently, the man and woman who took the victim to the hospital were members of the same gang and the three of them had been attacked by a rival gang.
32-year-old Reginald Richardson was beaten to death.
While police haven't charged anyone with killing him, his fellow gang members are themselves in jail.
The man and woman who showed up at the hospital aren't charged with murdering their friend, but they are charged with street gang terrorism and concealing a death.
Police are looking for rival gang members as the murder suspects.
Reginald Richardson was a former correctional officer at Autry State Prison in Pelham. The 6-foot-3, 240 pound Richardson was taken to the Phoebe Putney Emergency room around 2 AM Tuesday by two friends, but he was already dead.
Now Police have arrested those two, 27-year-old Chanel King and 28-year-old Antonio Crapps, charging them with concealing a death and street gang terrorism acts. We did not have a mug shot of him at the time of this story.
Police reports show that Crapps was also treated at the emergency room Tuesday morning for injuries and released.
Police say Tuesday morning they were called to a fight near a club on East Broad Avenue, but found nothing. Soon after Richardson's body was brought to the emergency room. He died from multiple blows to his head and chest.
Richardson's parents from Louisiana met with Albany Police today, but said they were too upset to talk with us. Albany Police announced the two arrests, and said the homicide investigation is ongoing.
King and Crapps are in the Dougherty County Jail. Police do expect to make more arrests.
