Fayetteville boy accidentally shot by big brother

Associated Press - June 14, 2009 12:54 PM ET

ATLANTA (AP) - A 10-year-old Fayetteville boy who was accidentally shot in the head by his older brother remains hospitalized in intensive care.

Fayette County Sheriff's Lt. Belinda McCastle said the shooting occurred when the boy and his 12-year-old were playing outside near their house Saturday afternoon.

McCastle said the injured boy was flown by medical helicopter to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston in critical condition and a hospital spokesperson said he had been moved to intensive care.

The weapon was a 9mm pistol that belonged to the boys' father, who was at home at the time of the shooting.

McCastle said no charges have been filed and an investigation into the shooting is under way.
