ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Despite layoffs, foreclosures, and other economic challenges, state leaders say there are many resources that could help you buy a home or start a business.

Governor Sonny Perdue talked about those resources at a day-long Business and Housing Expo at Albany Technical College. Six different expos are being held across the state over the next two days to provide communities hardest hit by the recession with information about home ownership and government resources.

The state itself is offering $1,800 in tax credits to home buyers. Governor Perdue says Georgia will continue to grow.

"It's so important if people need help to buy a home these days. We want to get the housing industry started back we want to put our builders back to work to recharge our economy," said Perdue.

Governor Perdue also stressed the important role technical schools play in keeping a community Work Ready. Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Mike Beatty said it's important for those who want to be their own boss to be able to find the state resources to make that happen.
