CLARKESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A northeast Georgia man is jailed after being shot while leading deputies on a chase through Habersham County, including two churchyards.
Sheriff's Col. Greg Bowen says a deputy tried to stop a pickup with no taillights about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, but the driver fled along Chase Road in Cornelia. Bowen says the truck collided with another deputy's car before heading onto the lawn of a church, and as the driver attempted to run over that deputy, another fired several shots, striking the driver.
The truck kept going, through another churchyard and off an embankment. The driver fled on foot.
Bowen says 40-year-old Milon Ray Jackson of Alto refused hospital treatment for a non-life threatening shoulder wound. He faces multiple charges.
