MILLER COUNTY, GA (WALB) - Prom night for high school students should be a night of celebration, but drinking alcohol could ruin the fun, and even be deadly.
Thursday Miller County law enforcement today gave teens a powerful lesson, that could save their life.
The scenario: Prom night. Five high schoolers injured, one dead. All because one student decided to drink, then drive.
Of course, what you're seeing isn't real. But the powerful effect is.
"I was actually crying."
"It felt like the real thing."
"It'd made me think twice," said Miller county high school students.
Miller county Fire, EMS, Sheriff's office, and police - along with high school students - put on the display - to relay a life-changing message.
"It's great timing. We have our prom coming up saturday night," said Principal Robert McIntosh.
"We don't want them to have the memories of a tragic loss of a student or friend on prom night," said Robert Clark with Colquitt Fire EMS.
Students watched in shock as their friends were placed on stretchers, cut out of vehicles, and one put in handcuffs.
Students even got to experience what it's like to see a friend put in a body bag.
"To actually see them getting the cover on their face. It really made me think about some things. Drinking really isn't cool for me. It really isn't," said one high school senior.
"If we got to one student out here, one student looks at this and says I don't need to drink and drive, well we've accomplished our goal," said Clark.
From the looks on hundreds of teenage faces, it's safe to say, goal accomplished.
