THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Pet owners in Thomas county listen up, the health department is urging you to protect your pets and yourself from rabies.
Saturday the Thomas county health department and local veterinarians will hold their annual rabies clinic.
Seven sites for vaccinations will be set up all over the county.
The shots cost $11 for one animal, $10 each for two, and $9 for three or more animals.
Raccoons, bats, skunks, foxes, and coyotes are the wild animals most commonly infected.
And if they bite your pet it can put you at risk.
"If humans contract it rabies can be deadly. So that's why it is very important to get your animals vaccinated because it could be deadly to humans and by the time you start having symptoms it may very well be too late," said Shemika Lucas, Environmental Health Specialist.
Georgia law requires all dogs and cats to be vaccinated against rabies each year. Puppies and kittens over three months old must get a rabies shot.
