Dougherty District Attorney says harsher punishment for minors in violent crimes

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Two recent crimes involving minors have the Dougherty District Attorney’s office working to charge juveniles as adults in certain situations.

D.A. Greg Edwards said teens who commit violent crimes alone or with someone over the age of 18, or participate in gang activity will be charged in Superior Court.

This means the court can release the minor’s name, and he or she could face serious time in prison.

“If you get caught up with these gang-bangers or caught up with adults who are engaging in adults activities, you’re going to be punished as an adult,” explained Edwards.

These crimes are in addition to the seven deadly crimes.

Those are murder, rape, aggravated child molestation, aggravated sodomy, kidnapping, serious bodily injury and armed robbery with a gun.
