Moultrie police want the public to watch for contractor fraud

MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) - If you’re still needing someone to make repairs to your home after storm damage, don’t let impatience lead you into choosing someone that can do more harm than good.

When it comes to fraud prevention, you can never be too careful.

The Moultrie Police Department is making sure that you know what signs to look for when it comes to fraud.

As many South Georgia residents are still dealing with damage to their house or property left by Hurricane Michael, you need to stay alert of those who might be trying to take advantage of the opportunity.

Investigator Shavarye Anderson said the biggest thing to look for is a business license.

"Most of the companies will keep their license number on the side of their vehicles and they have cards with the business licenses on them. One thing that people may not know is that they can simply just ask them for the business license, to see the business license.

Police said that if you have any questions about a possible business, you can contact the Marshal Unit. They handle anything with the operation of a business.
