MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) - The Moultrie community will be getting together for a “GREAT” reason Saturday, March 2.

The GREAT Program stands for gang resistance education and training. It’s an effort put on by the R.E.A.L. Church as a way to help Moultrie’s youth avoid gang violence.

The Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office and the Moultrie Police Department are taking part in the event, hoping to help keep the youth off the streets.

“A lot of the violence was occurring in our neighborhoods," said Event Coordinator George Wallace. "A lot of the youth and youngsters were getting caught up in a lot of the unnecessary negativity that was through our neighborhood and community. I felt like it was time for use to come up with something to draw the kids.”

The event is expected to see over 1,000 participants.

It will be held March 2, and will start at 10 a.m. at 305 7th Street NW in Moultrie.
