APD wants to talk to driver of stolen car

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany Police are investigating a wreck that happened about 10:30 Thursday night at the intersection of Mitchell Avenue and South Street, and one of the vehicles was reported stolen.

The person they are looking for, who left the scene, was driving that vehicle.

The Albany Police Department’s Traffic Unit said that a 2008 Dodge Avenger was traveling north on South Street towards Mitchell Avenue while a 2018 Nissan Altima driven by Anthony Eafford, 46, was traveling east on Mitchell Avenue approaching South Street.

Eafford said the other car ran the stop sign, and they collided.

The other vehicle continued north, struck a street and stop sign pole, and a chain link fence at 306 Mitchell Avenue then came to rest on the curb.

Eafford’s car spun clockwise and came to rest along the north curb. The driver of another vehicle stopped and picked up the driver of the Dodge, and drove away.

Eafford was transported by EMS to the Emergency Center with complaints of injuries.

The Dodge Avenger was reported stolen after the crash occurred. The incident remains under investigation.
