ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The time to begin collecting data for the 2020 census is just around the corner.
Albany and Dougherty County officials gathered to discuss the importance of the census and their role in the census collection.
The event was hosted by the Georgia Municipal Association and the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia to teach the officials about forming complete count committees.
“It’s really important for all of us that we get a good population count in the 2020 census. A lot of planning decisions, funding decisions and things are made based on population counts for the decennial census," said Becky Taylor, Georgia Municipal Association employee.
Officials said these committees are comprised of community leaders and help the census bureau get a true count of the residents in the area.
They also shared that this count may influence federal funding and local business planning.
